Social Studies Standards (SS)
South Dakota's English Social Studies Standards are divided by History, Civics/Government, Geography, and Economics. Several of these standards are closely connected and can be addressed by a single activity or task. Below is the Standard codes for ELA. K = Kindergarten
- K.H: Analyzing major events and their impacts, impacts of people, events, ideas, and symbols upon history using multiple sources.
- K.C: Explain, compare/contrast, and analyze historical principles and philosophical purposes of various forms of governments. Explain historical impact of primary founding documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. Bill of Rights, etc.
- K.G: Apply geospatial resources including data sources and geographic tools to generate, interpret and analyze information. Recognize characteristics of the processes that shape places and regions. Understand ways in which humans adapt to, use, and modify the environment and various elements.
- K.E: Apply fundamental economic ideas and concepts associated with the study of economics.
The following activities revolve around the SD Kindergarten Social Studies content standards but also include other Kindergarten standards as well as the SD Early Learning Guideline and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework domain goals. These activities are based on kindergarten-level development and can be used to support preparing your child for kindergarten. Keep in mind that all children are unique in their development and progress at different rates.
